Dear Mr. Devcic,

REPORT

To get a personal impression on the holding of animals for sale, we would ask you to make an inspection on the market of the Tresnjevacki trg, especially the area where animals are sold, for which we consider with good reason it does not satisfy the conditions for keeping animals.

Some activists from our organization, while shopping on the market on Sunday, September 5, 2004, noticed how animals for sale (exotic birds, fish, bunnies, hamsters, mice, and one dog) were held in bad, non-hygienic and improper conditions. All the animals were exposed to the sun. About seven exotic birds were pushing each other in cages they where held in. The dog, a mixed basset, was laying down in a tiny cage in his own urine and excrements.

We consider that the salesmen are selling these animals without any education about the animals’ special needs and also, by neglecting their wellbeing, they are directly harming the animals' health and their lives.

We would request you while inspecting this market to inquire the conditions the animals are being held in and trace the way of purchase of those animals and confirm if the sellers possess permits to hold and sell animals. Besides this, we request you to prohibit the keeping of animals in such improper ways and also to sanction it as needed. We also consider it necessary to perform such inspections also on other markets, were animals are sold.

We would ask you, once the inspection is done, to inform us about the steps undertaken. We would also like to remind you to inform us about the results from a pet shop inspection, based on the report our organization made to you.

Thank you for your kind collaboration.

Sincerely,

Luka Oman

Dear Sir or Madam,

REPORT

To get a personal impression on the holding of animals for sale, we asked for an veterinary inspection to be done on the market of the Tresnjevacki trg, especially the area where animals are being sold, for which we considered with good reason it did not and could not satisfy the conditions for keeping animals.

The veterinary inspection performed its control and confirmed our statements, as well as confirmed that the mentioned location is not registered as a market-place and that at mentioned place it is not allowed to sell animals.

We would request you to perform this veterinarian inspection as soon as possible and prohibit the sale of animals at this location and other possible locations due to missing permission to sell and not satisfying conditions, if necessary sanction. We consider it necessary to also inspect the other market places of Zagreb to finally completely prohibit such kind of trading.

Attached we send you the veterinary inspection report.

We would request you to inform us after inspection about the steps undertaken.

Thank you for your kind collaboration.

Sincerely,

Luka Oman
