12/29/05 Pig's Head in the Big Brother Show
December 29, 2005
We are writing to you with the intention to discuss your broadcasting of an episode of the Big Brother show which was emitted on December 27, 2005 and by which the inhabitants of the house gave, as a birthday gift to one of the finalists, a pig's head, which made everyone laugh out loud.
Although we are aware of the fact that in the Big Brother show there are no vegetarians at all and they are not aware of the importance of respecting other nonhuman lives, we consider it improper to humiliate and make fun of other helpless beings. Considering the fact that Big Brother is a very popular show, its message can reach lots of people, especially kids who are influenced by the media. The December 27 show sent the message of humiliating pain of other creatures that died for human greed and the "entertainment" of Big Brother's inhabitants. Especially in this pre-holiday season, such shows should promote humane values, and not cheer out and make fun with the head of an animal that had spent a hard life and was brutally slaughtered.
Since so far we had a nice collaboration with RTL, which takes care about its reputation among its spectators, we hope that next time you will avoid such improper situations, on which we received numerous complaint e-mail complaints. We also hope that you will further propagate civilized entertainment, which we would gladly support.
In hope for a successful collaboration in the future, we wish you happy holidays and lots of success in the next year to the entire Big Brother crew.
