Aims of the Animal Protection Network
The Animal Protection Network is open towards all associations, civic initiatives, managers of animal shelters, representatives of urban and communal administrations, and individuals who are willing to contribute to the program of adoption and prevention of abandoning animals. Its aims include:
- Good communication and cooperation between the Network’s members
- Good communication and cooperation between the Network and relevant institutions such as urban and communal administrations or state institutions (veterinary inspection, veterinary stations, etc.)
- Insisting on the proper implementation of the Animal Protection Act and its further amendments in order to improve the conditions of securing the protection of abandoned animals
- Collecting information on the state of abandoned animals’ welfare and animal protection on the entire territory of Croatia
- Informing the media and the public about the actual situation concerning the implementation of the Animal Protection Act and the protection of abandoned animals
- Insisting on adequate punishments for abuse, neglect, and abandoning of animals, as well as encouraging citizens to report on such cases to the institutions in charge
- Promoting the programs of microchipping and spay/neuter of animals, with the aim to prevent their abandonment and uncontrolled reproduction
- Encouraging the construction of shelters for abandoned animals as public institutions that will take care of their welfare and secure their adoption
- Promoting the adoption of companion animals instead of purchase
- Comprehensive education on animal protection and animal rights through animal shelters and beyond
- Informing organizations for animal protection, heads of animal shelters, veterinary workers, and urban and communal administrations on their legal obligations and animal protection
- Encouraging organizations and individuals to become active in their local communities
- Ensuring the adequate operation of animal shelters and other services that are in contact with abandoned animals
The ideal ultimate goal of the Animal Protection Network is to put an end to animal abandoning and to raise awareness and responsibility of citizens to the level that will result in a redundancy of animal shelters.
