The waste is very much visible in nature and thus we can and must act on it. Vedran Romac – How do people think?
The image that we have about ourselves and the image we want to project to others are the biggest obstacles to any personal change. Our conscious rational part often finds the most effective ways to defend those images, and our intelligence is employed to this end. The same mechanisms are strongly pronounced when a person makes a life-changing decision of becoming a vegan. Collecting information and being exposed to the truth of man’s relationship to animals creates a desire to participate in stopping the greatest injustice that the human race is doing on this planet. However, the motivation is only temporary, the same as it works for anything else, and the real crisis sets in when the motivation subsides. The world comes tumbling down and the challenge of giving up rises. The problem just seems too big. We seem just too small. Insignificant. How to approach this personal change? To become and to stay a vegan.
Dr. sc. Irena Petak, dipl. ing. biol. – What do animals think about?
Everyone who lives with an animal recognizes in their eyes a person who can think and feel. Nevertheless, we live in a society that only recognizes the existence of things that can be proved by a science, while scientists have not done researches about the thinking processes and emotions of the animals due to fear of anthropomorphism. In the last twenty years this has changed and we are starting to view the animals in a different way. Who are all the animals? Humans and non-human animals? If it can be proved that a dog can think, can we know what is going on in a bee’s mind? Animals who have learned to communicate with people. Can fish feel pain? The concept of self – experiments with a mirror. What can we say about emotions? Culture of social animals. The lecture (talk) will encompass various examples of communication, cognition and consciousness, emotions, pain and culture of different kinds of animals. There will be a discussion after the lecture.
