04/21/05 Bloody Make-up of Max Factor!

| More

After the action "Ariel Washes Bloodily" and marking the World Laboratory Animals Protection Day, Animal Friends once again calls all citizens not to buy products tested on animals.

Despite many alternative methods already used for testing of 8,000 cosmetics ingredients that are already proved safe and freely entered the market, unethical companies, for the sake of profit, still expose over 38,000 animals in Europe, and millions around the world, to horrors of suspicious experiments of cosmetics or their ingredients.

Therefore, on Thursday, April 21, 2005, at 12 noon, female Animal Friends' activists will walk across Ban Jelacic Square wearing "bloody" make-up in order to reveal cruelty which hides behind animal tests in the cosmetics industry.

With a strong message and a bloody make up, our activists will ask citizens to buy cosmetics according to the black and white list of producers that do (not) test their products on animals and to use cruelty-free cosmetics only.

Cosmetics tested on animals can't beautify anyone who cares about one's inner beauty and clear conscience.

The majority of all animal tests is conducted in the cosmetics industry. Rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, dogs and cats are being poisoned or exposed to various chemicals. The most common reactions are twitching, vomiting, paralysis and bleeding from nose, eyes and mouth. Wounds are horrible, pain is unbearable.

There is no legal obligation for animal testing the products - animal tests protect only the producers, and not the consumers. For the producers, it is an easy way to fulfill a legal obligation and to protect themselves from possible charges.

Ethical companies don't torture animals but instead use some of many alternative methods. The companies that don't test on animals outweigh the companies which don't want to take the full responsibility for the quality of their products and cause great suffering to animals.

Austria, Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium already banned animal testing in the cosmetics industry, and Denmark and Sweden banned the sale of cosmetics with ingredients tested on animals. European Parliament introduced a law which says that come the end of 2009 in the member states of the EU the most of animal testing of cosmetics will be banned as well as the sale of cosmetics tested on the animals outside of the EU.

At this moment 16 products of Procter & Gamble make over a billion dollars and 10 more make from 500 million up to one billion dollars. Animal Friends asks every individual to use only cruelty-free products and to show Procter & Gamble and other unethical producers they will no longer tolerate torture and slaughter of animals.

Every single one of us can make a choice and has power to change policies of companies that still test on animals, and encourage companies which produce cosmetics without causing suffering and death. That is why Animal Friends on the World Laboratory Animals Protection Day calls citizens to become conscious consumers and stop buying cosmetics tested on animals.
