- A million signatures are being gathered in the EU: Despite the existing ban, animals are still tortured in experiments

“We all thought the battle was over and that cosmetics tests on animals in Europe were a thing of the past, but sadly, that’s not the case. The European Chemicals Agency continues to demand the use of thousands of rabbits, rats, fish, and other animals in cosmetics ingredients tests. But you can help put a stop to it.

No animal should suffer for beauty, so if you are an EU citizen, No animal should suffer for beauty, so if you’re an EU citizen, please go to SaveCrueltyFree.eu and sign the European Citizens’ Initiative to protect the ban. Signing the petition takes only a minute—and it will help save lives.”

-Paul McCartney

Long-time animal protection advocate and the Beatles legend, Paul McCartney, issued a statement in support of the European Citizens’ Initiative “Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics – Commit to a Europe without animal testing.” The Initiative was launched by the international organization PETA, Dove, Body Shop and more than 100 other animal protection organizations, including Animal Friends Croatia. Expressing his support for this worthwhile initiative, Paul McCartney stated: “We all thought the battle was over and that cosmetics tests on animals in Europe were a thing of the past, but sadly, that’s not the case. The European Chemicals Agency continues to demand the use of thousands of rabbits, rats, fish, and other animals in cosmetics ingredients tests. But you can help put a stop to it.

Numerous organizations are calling on EU citizens to sign the Initiative and thus demand from the European Union to support and reinforce the existing ban on animal testing for cosmetics. PETA stated “As McCartney said, thousands of animals continue to be forced to inhale or ingest cosmetic ingredients during experiments requested by the European Chemicals Agency. The animal testing ban in the European Union was a global success, however, it is now threatened due to new demands to test ingredients that have been declared safe years ago, which is completely unnecessary. Ingredients required to undergo additional testing are sold globally and they will be a threat to all those wanting to buy exclusively products made without cruelty towards animals.”

For the campaign to succeed, a million EU citizens must join in the initiative, regardless of where they live, and 8,460 signatures are needed in Croatia. Consequently, Animal Friends Croatia are calling on the public to listen to Paul McCartney, and not only to his music but also to his appeal to act in the interest of animals and humans, and to choose to contribute to a society in which senseless suffering of innocent creatures would be reduced to the bare minimum.

“No major medical breakthrough has been achieved in laboratories through animal torture, and animal testing cannot even remotely predict the effects of those ingredients on the human body. It is time we turn to humane methods and leave behind us, once and for all, the practice of mutilation, blinding, starvation and psychological torture of intelligent creatures”, Animal Friends Croatia states.
