Veganska prehrana - prednost za djecu

Ohrabrivanje djece da od samog početka dobro jedu imat će na njih pozitivan učinak u budućnosti, te utjecati na zdravlje, težinu i manje odlaženje liječniku. Nažalost, s obzirom na različite poruke koje dobivamo od medija, stjecanje točne informacije može predstavljati znatan izazov.

U svibnju 1998. tiskano je sedmo izdanje knjige dr. Spocka pod nazivom Odgoj i njega djeteta. Dr. Spock u njoj preporučuje vegansku prehranu za djecu. To je potaknulo odavno zakašnjelu raspravu o znanstvenim i praktičnim pitanjima optimalne prehrane za djecu. Ovaj dokument je pripremljen od strane nutricionista kako bi se osvrnuo na tri glavna područja: prednosti veganske prehrane, sigurnost veganske prehrane i planiranje obroka za djecu.

PREDNOSTI VEGANSKE PREHRANE

Povrće, žitarice, voće, mahunarke i orasi su optimalna hrana za djecu. Budući da su bogati složenim ugljikohidratima, bjelančevinama, vlaknima, vitaminima i mineralima predstavljaju temelj prehrambenih navika koje podržavaju zdrav život. Istraživanja pokazuju da odrasli koji konzumiraju voće i povrće su oni koji su ga konzumirali tijekom djetinjstva.1 Evo nekih dugoročnih prednosti prehrane bazirane na biljkama:

SIGURNOST VEGANSKE PREHRANE

S obzirom na ove prednosti, zadovoljava li veganska prehrana primjereno prehrambene zahtjeve djece? Odgovor je jasan: da. Prema dokumentu Američke nutricionističke udruge o vegetarijanskoj prehrani,29 'prikladno planirana veganska prehrana zadovoljava prehrambene zahtjeve dojenčadi, djece i adolescenata i razvija normalan rast'.

U jednoj studiji, testovi razvoja djece pokazali su da umna starost vegetarijanske djece premašuje dobnu starost za preko jednu godinu, a srednja vrijednost IQ-a bila je dosta iznad prosjeka, što dokazuje i razvoj mozga.30

Većini roditelja je lako osmisliti vegansku prehranu koja ima dovoljno bjelančevina, kalorija, vitamina i minerala. Posljednjih godina još je lakše pridržavati se pravila veganske prehrane budući da su proizvodi obogaćeni kalcijem, vitaminom D i vitaminima B skupine dostupni u većini trgovina hranom. Primjerice, obogaćeni narančin sok sadrži 350 mg kalcija u 225 g soka, s 36-38% apsorpcijskog djela, u usporedbi s 32% apsorpcijskog udjela kod kravljeg mlijeka.34 Narančin sok također osigurava dostatne količine folne kiseline, vitamina C, kemijskih sastojaka bez masti ili kolesterola. Vegetarijanske hrenovke, burgeri, obogaćena sojina i rižina mlijeka, vegetarijanske delikatese i druga hrana je isto tako dostupna.

Kalorije, bjelančevine i sve ostale prehrambene potrebe lako se mogu zadovoljiti veganskom prehranom nadopunjenom vitaminom B12.
