11/18/2010 BULL JUMPS INTO CROWD IN MEXICO
Spectators at a bullfight in Mexico City got quite a scare when a half tonne bull jumped over the barrier into the grandstands. The incident took place during the second bullfight at the Plaza de Toros Mexico on Sunday when the animal launched itself over the barrier that separates the bullring from the audience. The bull fell into the alley where assistants and other bullfighters were waiting. A picador - one of the pair of horsemen in a bullfight that jab the bull with a lance - was injured when the animal fell on top of him. The animal returned to the ring and the bullfight continued as planned.
11/17/2010 1,000 PIGS STARVE TO DEATH ON ABANDONED PA FARM
On Monday, up to 1,000 dead pigs were discovered on an abandoned Fulton County, Pa., farm. The owner left the farm in August, leaving the hundreds of hogs to slowly die of starvation. Among these decayed bodies were also what appeared to be the remains of six calves. A Humane Society police officer with Better Days Animal League, Dennis Bumbaugh, said he's never seen anything like it. "I was horrified when I opened the door and saw what I saw," he stated Tuesday. The farm is owned by a recently separated couple, Daniel and Kerron Clark. Kerron hadn't been to the farm since 2008, arrived Monday, and was horrified by the carnage Daniel left. When Farm Sanctuary, the leading farm animal protection organization in the country, heard of this willful neglect, they called for the individuals responsible to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
11/16/2010 KEVIN OLLIFF RELEASED FROM PRISON AFTER 18 MONTHS
After over a year and a half in prison on stalking charges, on November 10 Kevin Olliff was released. Kevin was charged with "stalking" for his role in the POM Wonderful and UCLA anti-vivisection campaigns in Los Angeles. Very little news on Kevin's case was publicized during his incarceration. With the lack of updates made public, the case of Kevin Olliff was sadly under-publicized and under-noticed by the animal rights movement, despite its serious implications (Kevin was convicted merely of participating in home demonstrations).

11/13/2010 UKRAINE USES MOBILE CREMATORIUMS TO DESTROY HOMELESS DOGS

Ukrainian animal rights activists no longer seek understanding and support from the government and say that they are ready to take extreme measures: they threaten to disrupt Euro 2012 football championship in the country. 11/11/2010 WHALES FOUND DEAD ON DONEGAL BEACH
Environmentalists are trying to establish how 33 whales beached and died off the coast of County Donegal. They were found on Rutland Island near Burtonport on Saturday. Dr Simon Berrow of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group said it was one of the biggest mass deaths of whales in Irish history. He is concerned that Royal Navy sonar equipment could have played a role. Campaigners were concerned that the latest sonar equipment could have disturbed the navagational skills of this deep diving species of whales. In the past, the navy has denied that sonar noise from their warships could cause whales to beach. However, in America, the US Navy was ordered not to use mid-frequency sonar during training exercises from 2007 and 2009, after a judge found in favor of campaigners who argued the devices harmed marine mammals in the area.

11/08/2010 CANADIAN MEDICAL SCHOOLS END LIVE ANIMAL LABS
The Memorial University of Newfoundland ended live animal use in a medical student laboratory. Every Canadian medical school now uses nonanimal education methods. Last month, the Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) announced an end to its pig lab in an e-mail to PCRM. The animal lab became the subject of controversy after the university learned of PCRM's plans to file a legal complaint with the Canadian Council on Animal Care arguing that the school's use of live pigs violated federal guidelines. All medical schools in Canada now teach students with modern nonanimal educational methods, including human-patient simulators, such as those now in use at MUN. The decision to move from live animal use toward nonanimal methods in medical training is also sweeping Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) classes.
11/06/2010 "SLAUGHTER PORN" ANIMAL CALENDAR SLAMMED BY PETA
Animal rights organisation PETA has condemned a shocking animal slaughter calendar which shows a topless model chopping the head off a pig. In one photo for the calendar, a woman is pictured suggestively bending over a dead pig while chickens peck at the blood-soaked ground. Other images are believed to show lambs being slaughtered and chickens being choked by models. PETA slammed the calendar, calling it "slaughter porn." "Only a sociopath could find sexual excitement from the depiction of horrific and violent acts against frightened living beings," a spokesman said. "Such imagery is likely to get the public to consider that real pigs used for meat are sensitive beings who suffer violent, bloody deaths and who do not want to die." Diana Kobzanova, a former Miss Czech Republic, is featured wearing stockings and stilettos swinging an Axe at a dead pig. The 27-year-old model has hit back at accusations the calendar promotes animal cruelty, claiming that all the animals featured are models built specifically for the shoot. She explained the calendar is actually for charity, saying: "All the proceeds from the calendar will go to the Helppes Associaton which trains guide dogs for the blind and the physically handicapped."
11/05/2010 JAPAN DOLPHIN HUNT TOWN MEETS WITH ACTIVISTS
An unprecedented meeting between conservationists and leaders of the dolphin-hunting village depicted in the Oscar-winning film "The Cove" ended in bitter disagreement Tuesday, failing to bring the sides any closer. The carefully organized parley in Taiji was given a jolt before it even started Tuesday when Ric O'Barry, the dolphin savior star of the movie, said he would boycott the meeting due to "severe restrictions on the Japanese and international media." Taiji's hunt each year draws a motley group of protesters who videotape the slaughter and occasionally scuffle with local fishermen. This season - the first since the Oscar was awarded - the attention has been particularly intense, and the usually unresponsive town leaders agreed to a discussion at the town's community center. But the two-hour meeting was filled with acrimony from the start, and ended up being fruitless. The village fisherman defended the hunt as part of a centuries-long tradition, pointing out that Westerners kill other animals for food. Activists countered that the killings are barbaric - and that dolphin meat is laced with dangerous toxins.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, also urged other countries of the world to ban bullfighting practice. European Union should impose a Europe-wide ban on all blood-sports. People, whose jobs were thus affected, should be rehabilitated in other jobs with related training. Rajan Zed stresses that non-violence is a greatest virtue. We have long been out of the caves. Let us get rid of these outdated traditions. World will be a better place without these blood-sports.
