05/09/03 The Final Farewell to Circus With Animal Acts
The last protest of Animal Friends in front of the circus on Zagreb Fair: after a successful campaign and great support of the public and media, Animal Friends feels optimistic
EXCEPTIONAL SUCCESS OF A PETITION AND DEMONSTRATIONS
After thousands of signatures collected through information-stands all over Croatia and our Internet pages, we believe that the mayor Pavic will reach a positive decision regarding the request for the banning of the circuses with animal acts in Zagreb.
On Friday, May 9, 2003 beginning at 7:00 P.M., Animal Friends will hold its last out of many protests against circus with animal acts.
Circuses with animal acts are banned all over the world, in Venice, Vienna, Greece, United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, USA, Israel, Australia and many other cities and countries on all continents. We expect that Zagreb will join those cities and in the future ban circuses with animal acts.
YES TO CIRCUS, BUT NO TO ACTS INCLUDING ANIMALS!
We are not against circus in general, nor the entertainment, but considering that circus is everything but fun to the animals, we are against circuses that use animals. Even world greatest circuses refuse using animals for their performances. They rely on skills of their acrobats and attractiveness of their shows.
That's the main reason we ask Zagreb not to support cruelty towards animals and not to permit torture and humiliation of circus animals.
If this circus comes to any other part of Croatia, our activists will organize protests and ask the public not to support it, and the authorities to ban its performances in the future. It's a world trend and a part of fighting against cruelty toward animals, so we hope that Croatian authorities will realize its necessity.
Petitions with which people can support our request can be signed on www.prijatelji-zivotinja.hr and on the stalls of our organization.
On a day of a demonstration a stall will be set in front of the shopping center on the Kvaternik Square.
