Animal Friends Croatia, the Scandinavian Anti-Sealing Coalition, Campaigns Against The Cruelty To Animals, Canada, the Atlantic Canadian Anti-Sealing Coalition, Canada, among other groups, are starting a massive European "Stop Commercial Sealing" campaign, urging every EU country that has not already banned seal products (or considered it) to act now.

The European Commission had asked The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to investigate the Canadian Seal hunt 2007 before making a decision about whether or not to introduce an EU wide ban of seal products.

The first part of their report concluded that Canada's commercial seal hunt is inherently inhumane. EFSA concludes that seals should be recognised as sentient marine mammals that can experience pain, distress, fear and other suffering - not fish, as they are classified in Canada. It also recommends seals should be protected from killing and skinning practices that cause pain, distress and avoidable suffering.

Now we are waiting to hear the outcome of the second part of the report, the so-called "Impact Assessment Report," before the European Commission (and after that, the EU Parliament) makes their final decision.

We urgently need you to help us spread the word about this campaign, so we can have as many European Citizens as possible write their governments asking them to ban seal products nationally. The more countries that talk about, and work actively for implementing national bans on seal products, the easier the decision will be for European-Commission and Parliament in about one or two month's time from now.

Please help us spread the word about this campaign to all your friends, members and supporters in Europe. Together we can do it! We did it with cat and dog fur – we can do it again for the seals!

Thank you!
