Educational talks – an important and valuable part of Zagreb Veggie Fair

– Individuals practicing a sustainable lifestyle share their experiences on the Zagreb Veggie Fair stage

There is excitement in anticipation of September 6, 7, and 8 when the Zagreb Europe Square will be filled with colours and scents of a plethora of vegan cruelty-free food and cosmetics exhibitors, animal protection groups, and restaurants offering delicious vegan dishes. Apart from enjoying the degustation of treats prepared by a large number of participating restaurants that are bound to satisfy even the pernickety gourmets, visitors to the Zagreb Veggie Festival of sustainable living will have the opportunity to hear dynamic, inspirational, and educational talks.

On Friday, we will hear more about why climate change requires systematic change in food production and learn more about co-habitation with wild animals, damage caused by bottom-trawlers, why we should join the Super Challenge, how to cool our planet with our food, and why veganism is the path to health and vitality.

The host, Sara Mešin will discuss these topics with: Petra Andrić from Greenpeace, Ivona Stanić from WWF, Nikolina Plenar Jeličić, Nikolina Badrov from Pobjeda Association, Suzana Bedić, PhD, and Valentina Balgavi MSci, certified nutritionist. Damjanka Terstenjak from Humana Nova group will hold a Recycling Workshop, intended for children and parents at 17.00.

On Saturday, more information will be shared on health, financial and environmental benefits of cloth diapers and sanitary pads, the book “Balkan Vegan” which fuses tradition with modern cuisine, the successes of a vegan athlete, the importance of plant-based food production, activist art, and fight against speciesism. There will be talk on how to save money by eating healthy vegan food, as well as on the link between veganism and environmentalism. At the end of the day, talks will be held on the importance of widening the circle of compassion and the building of a culture of peace, and advice will be shared on how to create a better world with joint efforts.
The following speakers will address the visitors: Danijela Đigaš, Jelena and Bor Cvetković Šarkanović and Igor Šarkanović, Ana Špac, Tin Pažur, Suzana Marjanić, Phd, Martina Đođo, Šime Validžić, Daniel Jakopovich and Dragan Šurlan.

The programme on Sunday will start by talks by the two faces of the 16th Veggie Festival, Split artists Sonja Bonačić and Jana Hajsoka, who will explain how the vegan diet helps them build strong bodies. This will be followed by their acrobatic act. Igor Drašković, Luka Savić, Dominica Firšt, Marina Milković, Nina Ćorić and nutritionist Maja Ljubas will discuss the most common prejudice against veganism, elaborate on ethical controversies concerning animal testing, the relevance of vegan options in student cafeteria, why it is queer feminist to be a vegan, why it is important to be loud for the sake of animals, and why veganism is a healthy option at any age.
Love for animals, wish to live a healthier life and care for the environment motivate an ever-growing number of people to go vegan or at least to learn more about the benefits of a vegan diet. The Veggie Fair offers an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded people, find out more about diverse vegan offers and educate oneself on positive changes that we can implement ourselves. Educational billboards and brochures with relevant information have been prepared for the visitors for this purpose.

Everything displayed at the Zagreb Veggie Festival will be vegan as this is a trademark of this unique event open to all. A positive atmosphere of the Fair’s green oasis will bring joy to its many visitors. Pleasant music and shaded benches will provide further comfort, together with freshly prepared dishes offered by exhibiting restaurants.
