Plant-Based Meat Day is celebrated every year on October 10 with the aim of motivating and inspiring individuals to choose plant-based food even when it comes to meat dishes. Plant-based meat day is also an opportunity to highlight the fact that plant-based meat, which is available to everyone, is better for human health, animals and the planet.
According to Animal Friends Croatia, plant-based meat offers a wealth of flavours and nutritional value, while requiring significantly fewer resources and creating far fewer negative byproducts, such as greenhouse gases and environmental pollution. At the same time, plant-based meat doesn’t involve killing animals and is a healthier choice for humans.
To mark Plant-Based Meat Day, Animal Friends Croatia encourage everyone to read their free guide “Meat (R)evolution." The guide is an excellent source of information for everyone interested in exploring the various types of plant-based meat and learning more about plant-based proteins and equally promising cultivated meat, which is expected on the market soon. The guide includes tips for shopping, cooking advice, and fantastic recipes perfect for celebrating Plant-Based Meat Day.
In the past 50 years, global meat consumption has quadrupled, with severe consequences. Animal raising requires huge amounts of land to grow feed. Around 80% of the world's forests are mercilessly cleared, destroying all life in them. This is the cause of the huge consumption of natural resources and consumption of drinking water, because as much as 70% of the investment is wasted. Raising animals also affects climate change, more so than its global traffic. It is about more than 90 billion farmed animals only on farms. With such an incredibly large figure, it can be clear to everyone - the destruction caused by the breeding of animals for food is catastrophic.
Cultivated and plant-based meat result in 96% lower greenhouse gas emissions and requires 96% fewer resources to produce the same amount of meat. Investing in the further development of plant-based and cultivated meat based on innovative technology can simultaneously end slaughterhouses and save us from the ecological crisis. Each of us can play a big role in that revolution by choosing plant-based food and plant-based meat," said Animal Friends Croatia.
Various studies have shown that when used instead of processed animal meat, plant-based meat is definitely a healthier option. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) announced in 2015 that red meat products, such as hot dogs, salami and ham, as well as red meat, are carcinogenic and can cause cancer, especially colon cancer. Plant-based meat, thanks to its composition, is healthier than animal meat in many respects, offering quality proteins, minerals, and vitamins without saturated fats, cholesterol, or nitrates.
Cooking with plant-based meat can be an endless source of inspiration and lead to a more creative and diverse diet. It is suitable for everyone, and the Plant-Based Meat Day is an excellent opportunity to explore the offer, find the best options, but also to try out recipes for delicious dishes such as plant-based sausages and kebabs, sarma with seitan, čobanac with soy pieces, shepherd's pie, chickpea meatloaf, and more recipes from the “Meat (R)evolution” guide
