10/01/24 "For the Animals" Euro Tour 2024 Arrives in Zagreb
A truck with educational multimedia contents arrives in Croatia on World Animal Day
- Zagreb, corner of Bakačeva and Cesarćeva Street, 4-5 October, 9am-7pm: educational attraction on European tour
Exactly on World Animal Day, Zagreb will host the mobile exhibition entitled “For the Animals” Euro Tour 2024 which is journeying across major European cities showing everyday life of animals at factory farms. The visuals and functions of the truck have been altered to accommodate an engaging mobile exhibition vividly presenting the life of animals on factory farms through multimedia contents. On October 4-5, between 9am and 7pm, visitors will be welcomed by the members of the Swedish Project 1882 organisation as well as Animal Friends Croatia volunteers at the corner of Bakačeva and Cesarćeva Street. Entry is free.
One of the goals of the event is to allow the public to witness first-hand how farmed animals are treated. Moreover, signatures will be collected for the petition for the European Commission to place animal welfare on the agenda: www.project1882.org/keep-your-promises.
“The way we treat animals is one of the big existential issues of our times. On our European tour, Project 1882 systematically sheds light on the daily suffering of farm animals. As a leading organisation for animal rights and welfare in Sweden, it is imperative to present this issue to the wider public and highlight the reality faced by animals in Europe,” said Benny Andersson, Project 1882 Executive Director.
“Croatia is no different from any other European country in how animals are kept and farmed. An example is to be found in the port of Raša where, after a long haul on trucks, animals are transferred to ships and transported to the Middle East where they are slaughtered without stunning. The most effective way for us, as individuals, to help farmed animals is to choose plant-based food and products,” added Animal Friends Croatia, inviting the public to visit this European exhibition and find out how to help end animal suffering.
The interactive truck has already visited Helsinki, Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Bratislava, Ljubljana, Budapest, and many other cities. After Zagreb, the mobile exhibition is to continue its tour.
“For the Animals” exhibition will also be open on Saturday, October 5, while an event organised by the Zagreb City Council on World Animal Day takes place at Europe Square between 10am and 6pm. During the event, various animal protection groups will present their work. There will also be a veggie corner at Europe Square, featuring a restaurant, benches, and parasols which should ensure visitors have more reasons to extend their stay at the event.
World Animal Day is celebrated worldwide on October 4, feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and vegetarians. It first started in 1931 in Florence at a convention of ecologists who wished to highlight the plight of endangered species. It soon evolved into an event dedicated to all animals and became an inspiration for humans to reconsider their treatment of animals.
This year in Croatia has been marked by animal abandonment becoming a criminal offence by law, prevention of horse abuse in log pulling competitions, saving dogs that had been used for fighting and many other cases and efforts aimed at better animal welfare.
Representatives of the Swedish Project 1882 organisation and Animal Friends Croatia will be available for statements to media by appointment.
