Artists Sonja Bonačić and Jan Hajsok Invite You to the 16th ZeGeVege Festival of Sustainable Living
- Supertalent finalists dispel myths about veganism
Split-based artists Sonja Bonačić and Jan Hajsok, known as the Crowd Control duo, captivated audiences with their dance and circus skills on Supertalent. Now, through billboards and a new campaign by Animal Friends, they invite everyone to explore veganism and discover vegan products and dishes at the 16th ZeGeVege Festival of Sustainable Living.
Life and dance partners Sonja and Jan were brought together by their love for the artistic expression of the new circus, which includes various acrobatics like silk dancing, Cyr wheel spinning, and fire juggling, all integrated into choreographic sequences that create visually impressive and technically demanding performances. While they may be acrobats on stage, Sonja and Jan emphasize with their billboard message, "Veganism Doesn’t Require Acrobatics – Just Good Will," that you don't need to be an acrobat in the kitchen. As longtime vegans, they strive to break down stereotypes about veganism, highlighting that it's accessible, simple, and delicious for everyone—a point festival visitors will see firsthand on September 6, 7, and 8.
Jan, who was born into a vegetarian family, has never tasted meat in his life. He and Sonja decided to go vegan together after learning about the treatment of animals in the meat and dairy industries. Through their lifestyle, impressive physical skills, and strong bodies, they dispel myths about this healthy way of living. They are also raising their three-year-old son, Arian, as a vegan.
“One of the most common myths about veganism is that you need to be a real acrobat in the kitchen to prepare tasty and nutritious meals. But the truth is, a vegan diet can be simple and quick. Many vegan dishes require no more than a few ingredients and take little time to prepare. Examples of simple meals include stews, pasta with vegetables, risottos, smoothies, and sandwiches. Many traditional recipes can be easily adapted with vegan ingredients, and today, there are many plant-based substitutes for meat, milk, and cheese that make everyday eating easier,” said Jan.
“Another common misconception is that veganism is expensive. Basic vegan foods like beans, rice, pasta, vegetables, and fruits are very affordable. Buying seasonal products and planning meals in advance can further reduce costs. Many vegan dishes are economical and nutritious. Vegan food provides enough energy and nutrients needed for optimal athletic performance. Our example proves that it's possible to achieve top results on a vegan diet. Veganism isn't complicated or requires special skills. With a bit of planning and an open mind, anyone can enjoy the benefits of a vegan lifestyle,” added Sonja.
Therefore, Sonja and Jan invite everyone to take at least one step towards veganism by signing up for the Vege Challenge at www.veganopolist.net. Everyone who signs up for this free service will receive interesting information via email about environmental protection, animal welfare, and health, as well as recommendations for films and books, instructions on how to prepare delicious plant-based meals, and more. “It’s good to get to know all the benefits of a plant-based diet and include more vegan products in your diet for your own health, for animals, and for the climate change that we must stop,” Sonja and Jan conclude.
